THE CARE JOURNAL

How can grooming feel less overwhelming?

Begin by asking whether the activity is needed. For everyday brushing, introduce tools gradually and keep handling manageable.
01

Prepare before you begin

Have suitable brushes, towels and any required product ready so that you do not repeatedly interrupt the session. Confirm label suitability rather than choosing by scent alone.

Discuss previous difficult experiences with a professional. A different product cannot be expected to resolve every source of grooming stress.

02

Build familiarity in small steps

Do not aim to cover every area on a first attempt. Introduce tools gradually and use as little restraint as practical, responding to what the cat can tolerate.

Care products support their stated grooming purpose. They do not replace gentle handling or promise to calm a cat or remove stress.

03

Pause when continuing is not appropriate

Stop non-essential handling if the cat cannot tolerate it, and discuss the next step with an appropriate professional. Severe matting or visible skin concerns are outside a routine product finder’s scope.

Note which tools, areas or activities were difficult. That information is more useful for the next session than simply adding more products.

KEEP EXPLORING

Keep the routine connected.

After rinsing: drying, brushing and the final check

Look beyond a fluffy surface. Moisture removal, drying and brushing belong to one considered finish.

Read the specific shampoo label and clarify the ratio before measuring. One number does not fit every product.
